FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Will the soft outer shell create more friction and torque the player’s head and neck upon impact?

  • We designed the Guardian materials to be hydrophobic and low coefficient of friction. The covers are made of the same slick materials as Olympic swimwear.  In addition, the Guardian is not permanently attached to the helmet.  If you receive a hard tangential hit, the Guardian will slide with the force without transferring any torque.

2. Will The Guardian fall off on impact? How is it attached?

  • The Guardian is attached to the helmet with snaps, PU gel and Velcro straps along with a gelled material. Upon high lateral impact, the Guardian will move with the force and slowly decrease the velocity. Upon light impacts, the Guardian should not fall off the helmet as long as it is connected correctly.

3. Will The Guardian make the helmet heavier and strain my neck?

  • The Guardian weighs approximately 180 grams (1/3 pound) and adds very little weight to the helmet.   A typical football helmet weighs approximately 1,800 - 2,300 grams (4-5 pounds).

4. Is The Guardian waterproof?

  • Yes. The exterior material is the same as an Olympic swimmers suit which repels water and the interior padding is a closed cell foam that will not absorb water. The gelled material also will not absorb water.

5. Does The Guardian prevent concussions?

  • Research has been done for many years on the use of exterior padding on top of a hard helmet. It has been determined through linear impact testing and drop testing that a soft shell on top of a hard helmet reduces the Head Injury Criteria (HIC). It has also been tested on the field and in many field trials with outstanding results and lower head traumas. Several former NFL Players still state today that they would not have been able to play their full careers without the use of a padded top added to their helmets.

6. How did you come up with the design of The Guardian? What makes the design so special?

  • We are material scientists. First we looked at all the materials available for the best energy dissipation from impact blows, and then we looked the physics and shape of the cap to create a shape that best deflects the energy horizontally. Finally, we took into consideration the aesthetics and wanted to create a soft cap that did not look too strange. It is going to be different, but we modeled it after the old “Leather Head” helmets.

7. Is The Guardian machine washable?

  • Yes. Wash in cold water and air dry.

8. Can I get The Guardian with any logo?

  • Logos can be stenciled on by any T-Shirt Shop or Screen Printer.

9. Is The Guardian limited to just football?

  • No. We are developing Guardian designs for Lacrosse, Hockey, Baseball, Sno Boarding, Skiing, Bikes and other sports.

10. Is The Guardian one size fits all?

  • Yes. We have created The Guardian to fit the largest of football helmets and with the use of the Gel Inserts, it can fit even the smallest youth helmet.

11. Will wearing The Guardian decrease air circulation and increase temperature inside the helmet?

  • Data shows that the Guardian acts as an insulator for both hot and cold days. The head stays cooler in the hot sun and warmer in the cold weather. Added bonus for no extra cost.

12. Can The Guardian protect me without a regulation helmet attached?

  • The Guardian has been designed to wear on the top of your football helmet - all current football helmets in youth and adult sizes.

13.  Where is the Guardian Cap manufactured?

  • The outer fabric is made of multispandex and is sewn in Asia. The proprietary impact absorbing gel is formulated and cast in Colorado, and the final assembly is done in the USA.
